ABSTRACT
Plan: The present study was designed to investigate the antioxidant andgastroprotective potential of ethanolic extract of Rheum emodi.
Methodology: Antioxidant and gastroprotective activity was evaluated usingreserpine and ethanol-induced ulcer models. The ethanolic extract of the Rheumemodi (EERE) was given by oral route at a dose of 50 mg/kg/p.o. and 100 mg/kg
Outcome: Pre-treatment with EERE, dosedependently reduced the ulcer index and lesions with marked attenuation in thelevel of oxidative stress parameters estimated by TBARS, GSH, SOD and MPO. EEREadministration increases the gastric adhesion mucus content in ethanol andreserpine-induced ulcer.
Keywords: Antioxidant Activity, gastroprotective activity, ethanolic extract ofRheum emodi
